Bargaining Update - GSBC update #15
We make a strong case as formal mediation begins
Your negotiating team began formal mediation with the employer on March 20 and 21. We will meet again on April 8 and 9.
We were well prepared going into these important meetings. Your negotiating team met on March 7 and 19. We looked at how bargaining was going for other unions and reviewed tentative agreements reached in Alberta and elsewhere in Canada.
On March 8, all elected AUPE GOA representatives met to plan our next steps. This included all Local representatives on the Government Services Bargaining Committee (GSBC) as well as Local Chairs and Local representatives on AUPE’s Provincial Executive (PE).
We also continue to work closely with AUPE’s research department for analysis of the information we gather and to create reports that spell out the costs of proposals.
Thanks to this level of preparation and consultation, we made a strong case for a good collective agreement when we met with mediator Rick Wilson.
This is a critical time in bargaining. We need members to send a message to the employer that we are determined to get a fair deal.
Negotiating contracts is a long and complex process. We appreciate your patience as we strive to get an agreement that we all deserve.
Please continue to wear red to work to show your solidarity, especially on days when we are bargaining.
April Telephone Town Halls
More than 10,000 of you attended town-hall meetings last August and December.
We are planning to hold more on April 30 and May 1. Stay tuned for more details.
